A scientific-practical seminar called "A new stage in sheep farming" and a presentation of the "Pirasora" sheep breed were organized by the Scientific Research Institute of Animal Husbandry of the Ministry of Agriculture.
At the event, Elvin Pashayev, Head of Goygol District Executive Power, Eldar Hasanov, Head of "Organization and Monitoring of Livestock" Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Mahir Hajiyev, Director of the Scientific Research Institute of Animal Husbandry, spoke and stated that one of the main priorities in livestock breeding is to improve the breed composition of small cattle animals in addition to cattle. , obtaining high-yielding breeds through selection and further improving the potential productivity of local breeds. In particular, with the aim of intensive development of sheep breeding, the Ministry of Agriculture has launched a project on the organization of breeding and selection work based on modern technologies. The main goal is to increase the productivity and fertility of sheep by applying artificial insemination and sponging, which are accepted as effective methods in world animal husbandry. It was also mentioned that it is planned to buy seeds from local sheep breeds and create their gene bank.
Speaking later, Panah Huseynov, head of “A Selection Farm For Breeding Pirasora Sheep”, said that the work on the creation of a new breed of sheep was started in the 70s of the last century in the village of Pirasora, Lerik region, through public selection. The sheep variety obtained by crossbreeding 4 breeds was called "Pirasora". The breed with high fat, wool and meat yield is well adapted to mountain and foothills, as well as the lowland zone. It has the potential to produce about 130 puppies per 100 mothers.
Saleh Maharramov, head of the "genetic resources of agricultural animals" laboratory of the Institute of Genetic Resources of ANAS, Yasin Gozalov, head of the Science Department of the Livestock Scientific Research Institute, and Mirzammad Hasanov, head of the Veterinary Scientific Research Institute, made presentations on the topic at the seminar.
At the end, certificates were presented to the authors, farmers' questions were answered, and "Pirasora" sheep breed was inspected.
