Today in Baku, within the framework of the twinning project "Increasing the potential of the Ministry of Agriculture to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the state aid to agriculture", a seminar on "Development of rural areas and creation of a national agrotourism system in Azerbaijan" was held. The aim of the seminar is to exchange ideas on the development potential of agro-tourism in the country and the future works in this direction.

Speaking at the event, Minister of Agriculture Inam Karimov said that rural tourism is one of the areas with great potential in terms of the development of the non-oil sector in Azerbaijan. The minister noted that the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev is carrying out serious reforms in the direction of the development of the non-oil sector. As a result of these reforms, the agricultural sector is developing dynamically.

The development of agriculture not only promotes the development of science, education, employment, innovation, trade, but also tourism. The Ministry of Agriculture has supported the creation of dozens of agro-ecotourism facilities in the regions within the "City to Village" agrotourism project, which has been implemented for several years. Currently, agrotourism facilities that meet modern requirements are operating in Gakh, Sheki, Ismayilli, Balakan, Lankaran and other regions. It was noted that the further development of agrotourism will have a positive effect on increasing the level of employment in the regions and increasing the income of farm owners.

Agrotourism is also an area that does not require substantial investment for farmers and allows them to form a new source of income. For this reason, exemplary farms operating in Azerbaijan also contribute to the revival of agrotourism by making tourism offers.

Speaking at the event, the head of the Delegation of the European Union in Azerbaijan, Peter Mikhalko, called agriculture one of the main areas of the development of the economy of Azerbaijan. He stressed that the European Union will continue to support the development of agrotourism in Azerbaijan. Peter Mikhalko said that he is sure that the development of this field of tourism will lead to the diversification of farm incomes and the improvement of agrotourism services.

Orkhan Mammadov, Chairman of the Board of the Small and Medium Business Development Agency under the Ministry of Economy, said that agrotourism has a wide potential in our country. The great return to Karabakh, the "Smart Village" projects and the implementation of the "Smart Agriculture" concept will give additional impetus to the development of this sector in the near future. The tourism sector has been identified as one of the priority areas of economic policy in terms of accelerating economic growth in the post-pandemic period. KOBIA takes measures for the development of micro, small and medium entrepreneurship in the field of tourism and increasing their potential.

Chief of Staff of the State Tourism Agency, Kanan Gasimov, emphasized that great work is being done for the development of tourism in our country. In his speech, he noted that the development of rural areas and agro-tourism is one of the priority directions at the moment.

Chairman of Agrarian Credit and Development Agency Seymur Movlayev said that studying the world experience in this field is of great importance for the development of agrotourism. There are different agrotourism models in the world. In the panels that will be organized within the seminar, international experts will give detailed information to the participants about the agrotourism models applied in the European Union.

The seminar continued its work with panel sessions.
