ABOUT US
For the first time, an expedition was organized in 1926 at the suggestion of the People's Commissariat of Azerbaijan to study the state of animal husbandry in our republic. A research group consisting of 12 people was formed for the implementation of the event. In this study, 16,540 head of animals were examined in private farms across 418 settlements. The research encompassed 5,543 milk, 2,340 wool, 71 hides, 526 feed, and 5,690 plant samples. Additionally, 7 animal skeletons, 520 animal head skeletons, and 150 sheep tail skeletons were collected.

In the same year, the Government of the Republic laid the foundation for the Livestock Science Center, situated 7 km from the city of Ganja and 3 km from the city of Khanlar (Goygol). Following the expedition results in 1929-1930, a 6-volume collection of books covering all areas of Azerbaijan livestock breeding was published.

Between 1944-1949, Professor F. A. Malikov led the station and nearly finalized the concrete concept of obtaining the status of an independent scientific-research institution for the future institute.

In 1949, the Azerbaijan Scientific Research Animal Husbandry Institute was established on the basis of the Livestock Experiment Station. The institute was named after Academician Firuz Ali oghlu Malikov from 1979 to 2015. Subsequently, the institute was subordinated to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Azerbaijan by the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated May 18, 1993.

By the decision No. 109 dated April 17, 2015, the Azerbaijan Scientific Research Institute of Animal Husbandry expanded to include the Laboratory of Selection and Breeding of Silkworms and the Azerbaijan Scientific Research Institute of Sericulture named after R.A. Huseynov, the Department of Feed Production Technology, and the Experimental Production Honorary Experiment Station.

Scientific activities of the Institute:
Since its establishment as a scientific institution, the Scientific Research Institute of Animal Husbandry deals with issues such as providing a scientific explanation of current problems in various fields of animal husbandry. The main direction of the conducted scientific-research works is to increase the productivity indicators of dairy cattle breeds, to improve existing sheep breeds and types, to restore and protect the breeds that were created on the basis of public selection and are in danger of extinction, to develop poultry farming in private institutions in accordance with market requirements, and to increase the productivity of bee populations, artificial breeding in our republic. proper organization of fertilization, study of the chemical and mineral content of feeds, feeding of mulberry silkworms, and increasing cocoon production.

Goals of the institute:
Scientific Research Institute of Animal Husbandry for the years 2019-2025 preservation of the existing animal gene pool, application of innovative and biotechnological methods in animal husbandry, creation of new animal breeds, new types, lines and crosses, study and regionalization of the adaptation characteristics of animal breeds brought from foreign countries, industrial animal husbandry intensive development, development of fodder and feeding on scientific basis, improvement of product production and processing technology, competitive product production and study of international experience have set certain goals and are working to achieve these goals. Creation of a competitive new breed of cattle and their hybrids and crossbreeds for the conditions of Azerbaijan, intensive development of sheep farming on an industrial basis, creation of a competitive (boar, semi-boar) sheep breed and breed groups, lines, three hybrids and crossbreds, competitive to the local conditions of Azerbaijan, creation of a breeding poultry farm , to achieve the creation of a competitive new breed, two lines and two meat-egg crosses according to the conditions of Azerbaijan, the creation of two productive silkworm hybrids that produce a quality cocoon and are adapted to the local climatic conditions; construction of greenhouses, organization of modern type aquariums, restoration of bee breeds existing in the republic and creation of new bee population and hybrid lines, hybrids, organization of fodder base, achieving the functioning of the Scientific Research Institute of Animal Husbandry as a genetic center, preparation of special restoration programs for the protection of the gene pool , improving the technology of animal fodder preparation and feeding, providing farmers with breeding material as a result of the creation of high-yielding breeds of animals, birds, bees and silkworms in accordance with modern requirements, organizing consulting services in livestock and poultry farms, turning the Scientific Research Institute of Animal Husbandry into an advisory center for farmers and scientific- application of research results are the main goals of the institute.
